In July 2024, Joey Graham, O&M Technician IV, and Dan Newsome, Plant Superintendent, from LS Power’s Rolling Hills Generating Station were thrilled to participate at Ohio State University’s Gallia County Junior Fair. The vibrant event showcased the diverse talents of young exhibitors aged 8 to 18. Over three days, approximately 120 participants displayed a wide array of projects ranging from woodworking and welding to rockets and robotics.
Dan worked with the woodworking participants, who had the opportunity to test their knowledge at the skill-a-thon held by the local carpenters union. The craftsmanship displayed by these young builders demonstrated a spectrum of skill levels from beginner to master builder such as a fully furnished desk that included hidden lighting and working outlets.

Joey had already been serving as an advisor to the Junior Fair Board Group, a team of 35 young adults from ages 15-18, so the event provided an opportunity for them to further hone their logistical, organizational, and public dealing skills. Together, they worked behind the scenes to ensure the judging process ran smoothly.
“We had a great time and look forward to future opportunities to help again. We have already started brainstorming on how we can help and improve the function for next year,” said Joey and Dan. Their efforts to nurture the next generation reflect LS Power’s dedication to community involvement and skill development.
