LS Power Offers Local Scholarship

LS Power recently announced the opening of the application period for the 2007 award of the Plum Point Energy Station Scholarship for Academic Excellence. This scholarship will be awarded to an Osceola High School senior during each year of construction of the Plum Point Energy Station. One OHS senior will be selected annually based on academic achievements, extra curricular activities, and desire to obtain a technical degree in one of the following degree programs: engineering: civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, environmental and engineering management; physical science: chemistry; environmental science: chemistry or biology.

Company president Jason Hochberg originally announced the availability of the scholarship at the May 31, 2006 groundbreaking ceremony of the Plum Point Energy Station. The scholarship includes four years of tuition to attend the college of the student’s choice to obtain a bachelor’s degree in one of the specified majors.

LS Power’s Plum Point Energy Station Scholarship for Academic Excellence is designed to encourage students to attend college to pursue careers in technology or science. LS Power believes a technical or science degree will equip students to excel professionally and offer the opportunity for students to return to their community and work for local industries.

Those qualifying students who are interested in applying for the scholarship are encouraged to contact the OHS counselor for details of the award, the application criteria and the application package. Completed application packages must be received by the school counselor by the April 16 deadline to be considered.

Construction of the Plum Point Energy Station began in early 2006 and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010. The construction workforce is expected to peak at approximately 1,200 employees. The station is expected to employ 100 permanent staff.

Founded in 1990, the LS Power Group is a fully-integrated power plant owner, developer and manager. On September 15, 2006, the LS Power Group and Dynegy, Inc. announced a merger transaction involving certain assets of the LS Power group, including its interest in the Plum Point and Dynegy, Inc.’s assets.
